Earthquake in Chile, WHM Team Recovering

On Saturday morning, an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale hit near the town of Concepcion, Chile just south of capital city Santiago. WHM’s missionary team is located northwest of Santiago, in Quillota. Team members Dave and Esther Miller and Brad and Margarita Wallace are doing well. In the area where they live, the quake registered at 7.5; when it first hit, they lost power and water, but as of Monday morning, these services have been restored. Team members Chip and Meredith Jones were not in the country when the quake hit.

Our team is currently assessing the situation to see where they can best help their Chilean partners with the emergency response work. Transportation throughout the country is difficult because many bridges have collapsed, and the team has limited internet access. Please keep our team and partners in Chile in prayer. We will update this page with additional information as it becomes available.

For a first-hand story about the quake in Quillota, see this blogpost by Esther Miller.

World Harvest’s team in Chile works primarily with the Chilean Presbyterian churches and assists in the development of pastors and the construction of church-related buildings. World Harvest Mission is a missionary sending agency with a vision to see “movements of churches empowered by grace for the world’s good and God’s glory.”
