Mya Smith Clarke

Mya arrived in Ireland in 1997 as an intern, and was amazed to realize God seemed to have designed her specifically for this job and this place. Mya spent much of the next 2 years in Ireland and finally arrived full-time in March 2000. She assisted Chris Curry in founding MAP, the Missionary/Ministry Apprenticeship Program, training Irish and Americans for cross-cultural ministry.

MAP partners with Irish churches and ministries to offer apprentices training in personal discipleship, evangelism and cross-cultural living. The MAP staff is passionate about seeing men and women captured by the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection so that they are set free to give their lives for others.

Mya has held a variety of jobs within MAP. Presently, she coordinates cultural training and re-entry programs for the apprenticeship and summer internship in addition to teaching and discipling. Mya acts as the living memory of MAP as the rest of staff joined MAP within the past 4 years. She enjoys engaging the people around her with the good news.

In 2000, Mya met (Irishman) Dave playing softball. They married in 2002, making Ireland their permanent home, and they still play sports together with their son, Tadhg.

While Dave works as a structural engineer, the Clarkes continue to rely on Mya’s MAP salary in the present Irish economy. She is supported by donations to WHM.
