Kevin and Katie Shaffer
Kevin was raised in North Carolina and Katie in Kansas. They both graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 but didn't meet until they started work at Capital One in Richmond, VA shortly afterwards. They were married in 2003 and in 2006 Katie left Capital One to serve at home with their children: Madeline (2006), Gabrielle (2009 and in heaven now), and Claire (2010).
After years of trying to find happiness in all the wrong places, God began showing them that the joy they longed for could only be found in Him. And so they committed their lives to following Jesus in 2006.
Kevin soon began feeling a pull towards London after his first visit in the summer of 2006. He was moved by the common need we have for a lasting peace, hope, and joy that is found in Jesus alone. And so Katie and Kevin returned in 2008 to explore serving longer term. Katie strongly identified with the South Asian women and their value of family and hospitality. At the same time, she was struck by the need we all have as women, men, mothers, fathers, and children for the preciousness of Jesus’ grace and love – a love that cannot be earned and yet is freely and generously given.
Katie and Kevin are excited now to be serving in a culturally understandable church plant in the British South Asian context of northwest London in this next step of a life long journey of following Jesus.
