Pat Abbott
Pat Abbott grew up in Pittsburgh PA suburbs, and graduated from Ringgold-Monongahela in 74'. After she finished a BA in Art from Salem College WV, she moved to NC to join her family. She is sure this was her first cross-cultural experience. Pat worked with physically and developmentally challenged people for a number of years.
Captivated by KING Jesus, Pat responded to the message of the gospel. In 1986, she joined Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NC. Under Rev. Clyde Godwin and Rev. Rick Downs, God grew her understanding of his love and grace. God used the Apostle Paul's letters to the Romans and Galatians influenced by the teachings of Rev. John C. Miller and reformed theology to shape a deep awareness of the radical power of the gospel to change her heart and numerous others. This growth preceded God's call for her to leave family, friends and home to live in Uganda.
In 1992, Pat applied to World Harvest Mission to be a teacher in Bundibugyo, Western Uganda. After two short-term years of service in Bundibugyo, and by invitation, she returned to live in community to be part of God's Kingdom development. Pat has served in Uganda since 1993.
Living among the poorest of the poor Pat teaches about HIV/AIDS in two hospital clinics and loves people living with this devastating disease. She has many relationships in the village where she sponsors school age teens, cares for the sick, hungry, widows, orphans and generally, has friends all over Uganda.
