Eric and Karen Brauer
Eric first considered missions at Urbana 76, while studying Civil Engineering at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Upon graduation in 1979, Eric pursued student ministry with Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF). In 1980, he married Karen, also a graduate from UC (Art Education). The Lord confirmed their call to missions through a two-month mission experience in Korea in 1982.
In 1984, they moved to Philadelphia, where Eric attended Westminster Theological Seminary. It was then, as members of New Life Church, that they were introduced to World Harvest Mission (WHM). It was also through New Life that they first participated in the Sonship course and were gripped by God’s grace in a fresh way.
In 1990, Eric and Karen applied to WHM, were accepted, and seconded to work with IFES Ireland (the IVCF type movement in Ireland). In 1996, they joined the WHM Church Resources (CR) Team in Dublin. The team strategy was facilitative church planting; coming alongside Irish church planters, training and enabling them in the church planting ministries to which God had called them. The commitment to facilitate Irish church leaders led to the launch of a new team, the Missionary Apprenticeship Program (MAP) Team in 1999. In 2001, Eric became the team leader for the CR Team, and in 2005, the Ireland Field Director supervising both CR and MAP. In 2011, after MAP transferred to London, Eric handed off the team leader role for the newly re-formed WHM Ireland Team, and his Field Director responsibilities expanded to include Central & Eastern Europe.
Eric and Karen have four adult children - Talitha, Karis (married to Stephen), Corban and Laurel, and three teenagers - Joanna, Elyssa and Emily.
