Bruce and Kathy Alwood

Bruce grew up in northern VA and worked as a chemical engineer in Baton Rouge for 4 years after graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1981. Kathy was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In 1985, they met at Maryville College where Kathy was working as an Admissions Counsleor for her alma mater (’83) and Bruce had just begun what was to become a 25 year tenure with InterVaristy Christian Fellowship. They married in 1986.

Bruce served with IVCF as campus staff, then Area Director, and finally as Regional Director for 7 states in the South East. After 15 years as a part-time student, including a year-long study sabbatical, he earned his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2001.

Kathy has served as support at home, raising their 3 children: Kasey ('88), Paige ('90), and Moses ('98), volunteering in the church and community, and growing through 14 years of participation in Bible Study Fellowship. She began leading small groups through WHM's Gospel Transformation discipleship course in 2001.

Despite the struggles and weakness of the Irish Church, Bruce and Kathy are amazed at the opportunities for the gospel to be proclaimed since their Dublin arrival in July 2010. From partnership and mentoring with passionate Irish Christian leaders in churches, to Alpha courses, to running the summer Sonship programme for Irish and American university students, to prayer walks, to quiet retreats, to teaching a course for 15 yr olds in two different secondary schools, God has over and abundantly provided places for their gifts and passions to be employed!
