Derek & Lauren Webber

Derek and Lauren first met in 2001 when Derek was serving overseas in youth ministry, and Lauren came down to help out at the summer camp Derek was helping direct. Having similar interests in serving long-term as overseas missionaries, a fast friendship grew and the two kept in touch upon her departure. Over the course of letter-writing and biannual visits with each other, a relationship blossomed and after 3 years, the two decided to get married and settle in Birmingham, AL, where Lauren had just completed Nursing school.

During his time overseas, Derek had felt God leading him to pursue further education within the realm of healthcare that could serve as a door for introducing the Gospel while serving the poor. Upon returning to the States and getting married, Derek began studying to be a Medical Technologist, and then obtained his Masters in Physician Assistants Studies in December 2011.

Still feeling like God was directing their hearts to serve overseas in a medical and evangelism/discipleship capacity, Derek and Lauren took a vision trip with WHM to assess the ministry in Bundibugyo, Uganda. Seeing how their gifts might be used to further the Gospel in this area, as well as the opportunity for spiritual growth in the life of their own family, the Webbers felt like this ministry was a perfect fit for them to invest in. Derek plans on serving alongside Drs. Travis Johnson and Jessica Ankney in the Pediatric Ward of the rural Nyahuka Health Center. Lauren plans to invest her time in raising their two daughters, Lucy (2010), and Olive (2012) while building relationships with women in the community and on the WHM team. They hope to join the Bundi Team in June 2013.
