John Sender
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA- John attended New Life Glenside Church (the parent church of WHM) from an early age. He gained a passion for missions work after going on short term trips to Guatemala with his high school youth group. This led to studying civil engineering at Penn State University to develop skills useful to meeting people's physical needs in developing nations, with an emphasis on clean drinking water.
John pursued his passion through working at World Harvest Mission as a summer volunteer/intern (2007) at their sending center in Jenkintown, PA and simply couldn't be separated from the gospel of grace at the core of the organization's mission and vision. John then interned with WHM's Missionary Apprenticeship Program (MAP) in Dublin, Ireland two years later (2009), where he felt the gospel work in his own heart in new and amazing ways. He graduated from college in 2010, and promptly joined the newly formed South Sudan team for a six month long internship- helping to provide training for the local water office staff, implementing water systems, teaching physics at the local secondary school, and building relationships with youth.
John has been called to return to South Sudan, to continue work on water projects, and the pursuit in Jesus' name of the hearts of a youth generation riddled with brokenness, that the newest (and one of the poorest) nation of the world might know the renewing power of the gospel, and the depth of God's love. He is currently living in Philadelphia, working, volunteering as a leader with the Sr. High group at his church, and raising support for a three-year term in S. Sudan, to which he was recently appointed!
