Eric and Rachel McLaughlin
Eric and Rachel McLaughlin just completed a two year term as physicians at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya. They are in the process of preparing for long term work at Kibuye Hope Hospital in Burundi, serving as physicians and faculty at Hope Africa University.
Eric and Rachel both grew up all across the United States. They met while Eric was attending medical school at the University of Michigan and Rachel was in medical school at Loma Linda University. Both were interested in international missions and medical ministry. Rachel moved to Michigan to join an OB-GYN residency at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and Eric stayed to complete a Family Practice residency at U of MI. Maggie joined their family in 2009, and Ben was born in Kenya in 2011.
While in Michigan, Eric and Rachel met a number of other missions-minded physicians at their church. Together with two other families, they decided to form the “McCropders” in 2007 and pursue medical missions as a community. In 2009 all three families moved to Kenya with Samaritan's Purse. They then felt God's continued calling to work in post-war Burundi, one of the poorest countries in the world. The McCropder physicians will be on staff at the medical school of Hope Africa University, formed in 2005 to educate Burundians. They are excited to train national doctors while providing compassionate care to patients at Kibuye Hospital in central Burundi.
They look forward to many years of service in Burundi, and anticipate arriving on the field in 2013, after a year of language study in France. You can follow their journey and learn more at mccropders.com
