Heidi Lutjens

Raised mostly in Pittsburgh, PA by inner-city church planting parents - the oldest of their 3 children, Heidi was brought up with intrigue, love and appreciation for cultures and people of all kinds. Surprised to find herself following mom's footsteps into nursing, she graduated with her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. After working as a staff nurse for 6 1/2 years, mostly with children, Heidi was reminded during an evening spent at Urbana 2006, in her "hometown" of St. Louis, of her desire to take these skills to work in an international context. World Harvest Mission thought she would be a good fit for their team in Bundibugyo, Uganda, where she worked for almost 3 years as a pediatric nurse and fell in love with Africa and her people.

After a bit of soul searching during her post-field HMA, it became clear that this was God's calling for the next phase of her life and by another miraculous intervention she was reappointed to join World Harvest in their work in Africa, this time to the team in South Sudan. Heidi will be partnering with teammates and Sudanese brothers and sisters in working towards spiritual, physical and emotional wholeness for a war torn people soon to become their own nation - "for the world's good and God's glory!"
