World Harvest Mission is working to plant culturally relevant churches among South Asians in the UK.
The purpose of the WHM team is to testify by word and deed to the Gospel of God’s grace to South Asians in and through London. We do this through church planting, training, and mobilizing laborers for the harvest. Our ultimate goal is to create a church planting movement among South Asians in the UK, which is home to more than two million South Asians.
Currently there are two church planting teams, one working in the northwest outskirts of London among Gujarati Indians, and one in the South Asian enclave of Southall in the western edges of London among Indians and Pakistanis. As an intern you will be placed with one of these teams and will live with an Asian family or in a multicultural boarding house in the area. The whole intern group will meet regularly for prayer, training and discipleship. The internship is a mix of organized time and free blocks to pursue the goal of extending the network of people connected to the church plant.
An intern in London will:
- Assist in the ministry of the WHM church planting team
- Learn about South Asian cultures (Indian, Pakistani) and religions
- Study and apply principles of grace as they learn to live with and love other people--both believers and unbelievers
- Engage in reflection on the theology of the mission of the church
- Gain experience sharing the gospel cross-culturally through various structured and unstructured relational evangelistic ministries
- Identify with the locals on board the challenging London bus system!
- Worship as part of the church plant community
- Assisting with the Short Term Ministry in their evangelistic outreach
- Supporting the youth outreach of the church plant
- Volunteering in the mercy ministry of the ASHA charity shop
- Engaging in relational follow-up ministry which flows out of the Short Term Ministry, ASHA shop, and youth ministries
- Helping with the musical worship of the church plant
