Missionary Assessment and
Orientation Project

Synopsis

Missionary Assessment and Orientation Weeks (A&O) are held quarterly at the Sending Center for individuals and couples interested in serving with WHM, and average from six to twelve participants. This process has greatly improved our ability to educate, evaluate and prepare individuals for ministry. WHM is looking to provide ongoing funding for our A & O weeks.

Description

Each March, June, September and December, WHM’s Sending Center hosts an A&O week for six to twelve individuals or couples considering service with WHM. Throughout the week over twenty staff and volunteers are involved in welcoming the candidates, conducting a variety of assessments, and orienting those who are appointed as missionaries.

WHM completely redesigned our missionary assessment and orientation process in late 2002 and have been improving on it ever since. Prior to this time, candidates came individually to the Sending Center to be interviewed on an ad hoc basis. They met with only a limited number of staff and had limited exposure to the broader WHM vision. We believe the new A&O process has significantly improved both the level of care we are able to provide to candidates and our overall decision-making process.

This commitment of time and resources comes with a financial cost. WHM needs partners that will help us send out the next generation of workers by supporting A&O Weeks. Will you join us in making this possible?

Annual Project cost

$80,000 (Includes: supplies, food, and staff’s time preparing, running, and engaged in follow up)

Missionary candidates have shared

“I appreciated the very caring, honest, competent people and I learned a lot about myself in the personal interview.”

“I enjoyed the morning of worship, prayer and blessing for new missionaries, having fellowship time with WHM staff, and I especially enjoyed our evening with the Executive Director.”

“I really like how personally invested each WHM Sending Center staff member was in supporting and loving me through the process. They were very gracious, and clearly had hearts desiring to honor and glorify God.”
