Sudan Internship

Vision

The work in Mundri is in its early stages. Our purpose is to testify by word and deed to the Gospel of God’s grace to Sudanese in the Mundri region of Southern Sudan. We hope to do this through theological education and leadership training, as well as improving education, community health, access to clean water, and other holistic, gospel-centered activities.

Overview

Sudan interns will be working alongside the World Harvest Mission team in Mundri, Sudan. Mundri is an isolated district in Southern Sudan. It is a land recovering from a troubled history and 20 years of civil war with much of the infrastructure of the country destroyed or in disrepair. Travel is strenuous and communication is expensive. It is not an easy or safe environment. People still die of malaria and cholera, and AIDS is still on the rise.

The team works in various creative ways with the local community, government and learning institutions. Its primary partner is the Diocese of Mundri of the Episcopal Church of Sudan. The church is well-established in Mundri, but struggling after years of war. The team hopes to see churches planted that are self-governing, self-sustaining, self-propagating and self-supporting.

Sudan Interns will:

Interns will significantly contribute to the ongoing ministry of the WHM team--through evangelism, service, and discipleship--by equipping residents of Mundri to live Christ-centered, grace-filled lives. Interns should expect to enter into missionary team life, which includes spending time with various families and observing their ministries, looking for ways to serve them, team prayer/worship/Bible study, personal devotions and discipleship with team members, and participation in the local church.

Other intern activities may include:

  • Primary education
  • Teaching English
  • Construction projects
  • Coordination with a summer church team
  • Civic education
  • Independent research
